1. 表示“一个或一点…也没有”，其后可接单、复数可数名词或不可数名词，相当于 not a (n) 或not any：He has no child(ren). 他没有孩子。/ There is no hope. 没有希望。
2. 修饰名词时，不能同时使用冠词，指示代词，物主代词以及 any, some, every 等词，但可与数字或other连用：
正：No two men think alike. 没有两个人想法是一样的。
正：No other man could do it. 没有别的人能做它。
误：He has no any (his, this, the) money.
误：No every boy is invited to the party.
误：No my friends agree with me.
3. 关于no与yes：用英语回答问题时，我们通常是将no 与否定句连用，将yes与肯定句连用。但是注意：当要回答一个否定疑问句或一个陈述部分为否定式的反意疑问句时，用no还是yes取决于所回答事实本身是肯定还是否定。一般说来，若回答的事实是肯定的就用yes（往往译为“不”），若回答的事实是否定的就用no（往往译为“是”）。假若有人问你这样一个问题 ：Aren’t you a monkey?（你不是猴子吗？）你的回答应该是 No, I’m not.（是的，我不是猴子），而绝不能是 Yes, I am.（不，我是猴子）。再看两例：

4. 关于no与not：
(1) no是形容词，可直接放在名词之前。但若名词前已有the, a(n)，any, much, enough等词，则用副词not：
正：I have no (=not any) money. 我没有钱。
正：I haven’t much money. 我没有很多钱。
误：I have no much (no any) money.
(2) 与形容词或副词的比较级连用时要注意：用not属于一般比较结构，意为“比不上”或“不如”；用no则情况比较特殊，一般说来“no+形容词或副词比较级+than”所表示的意思是该形容词或副词的相反含义：
John is not better than Tom. 约翰不如汤姆好。
